To skilled players game «is familiar to Archon: The Light and the Dark» («Lord Sveta and Darkness»), the developed Free Fall Games, which 1st version appeared in the 1980th. Archon is an early version of a computer game in chess with a set of strategy and very interesting. Beauty of game not in presentation, and in the course of game. The base format reminds game in chess – figures move on a board. The purpose of game or completely to destroy the enemy, or to receive control over 4 main positions.
Being the admirer of a retro of video games and 3D the press, Jimmy Vilgelmson (or spelpappan) decided to print the physical Archon version: the Light and the Dark – with the help 3D the printer.
Jimmy’s purpose was to make physical model of a board of Archon which would look in accuracy as virtual analog. «I longed to make physical figures which would look in accuracy as them 2D originals if on them to look from outside, then under all other corners they should be in 3D», – speaks to Jimmy.
Everything 3D models were made by means of the program which is called as Qubicle Constructor, and later 3D the real colors of 2 teams, on 3D the Replicator 2X printer are written from yellow and blue materials. It is recommended to use partial and full support during the press in connection with difficult elements. All process passed very quickly, speaks to Jimmy, on the press of each figure cunningly about 2 hours. Look at the beautiful results exposed below:
John Friman, the founder of Archon, apparently, very much liked results – «We consider, they are magnificent», – Friman said. Having obtained permit from Free Fall Games, Jimmy published everything 3D models on Thingiverse. You can freely download and print to yourselves Archon set, but not exercise it for commercial purposes – the right of intellectual accessory Free Fall Games belongs, extends on all heroes and graphics.
The set does not include Archon board, but you can download design of a board from wulfdesign here that 3D to unpack it.
Jimmy is happy with result:
«In search of similar projects on the Internet, I did not come across one photo of that, than I was engaged directly; therefore I cannot be sure that it is the unique physical model of the game Archon in own way, but my version is in own way unique».
