3D scanning of architecturally difficult Architecture church
Digital Building Heritage Group is the interdisciplinary cluster uniting scientists and graduate students from institute De Monfor which study processes of scanning of historical architecture. Scanning of this church was a part of the Connected Communities program in the project «Thousand years of history – parish church of Disvors from times of Mersia up to now», financed by Council for Researches in the field of Art and the Humanities (AHRC).
Sacred Mischa’s church and All Angels it was chosen for scanning thanks to own difficult structure and geometrical contradictions. Scanning of such unusual structure in the best way was suitable for construction 3D models.
In Disvorse there is a cool cultural center which settles down in Krestitel’s restored chapel, an ideal place on research long church stories because historical documents on all configurations and reconstruction which were led in a building are stored in this center. Operating the project, Douglas Kautorn, noted that specialists of the Trust organization and volunteers cooperated with scientists, and such cooperative work allowed to carry out really productive work on processes of digital technologies.
Douglas Kautorn told that laser scanning in church, and after – outside at first was carried out. Advantage of laser scanning is accuracy of measurement of object, even in this case when it is in several 10-kakh meters from 3D devices process of carrying out measurement of spikes of church and the huge arches, thus, becomes simpler.
FARO Fokus3d perfectly is suitable for scanning of the malekhanky details having a difficult form that often meets in historical buildings. Before emergence 3D laser scanning for work of models it was necessary to define all parts of a design manually, for this laborious work a lot of time, but Faro introduction Focus considerably left reduced this time. Specialists of Diseworth Heritage Trust carried out the detailed photoreview, paying attention to separate architectural features and materials. Photos high characteristics long time were a printsipny part of historical documentation of a structure, but a photo of surfaces of walls, floors, and certain architectural features can be used for a reconstruction of the digital structures applicable to 3D to digital models for giving of a realistic look.
Details of church of Sacred Mischa and All Angels have special value because configurations in materials, for example, in a stone laying, are very important for research and a reconstruction of history of development of a structure. Laser scanning is an ordinary process of obtaining multidimensional data, processing and which application are used in 3D modeling, thus it is possible to receive a sequence chain on which building changed. It is made in order that illustrations in future book about Sacred Mischa’s churches and All Angels very much corresponded to all historic steps and structure changes.
